Over 1500 nominations filed for 1st phase of Gujarat Assembly polls

More than 1500 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the first phase of 87 Assembly Constituencies in Gujarat. Surat East seat has maximum number of 44 nominations. The filing of nomination papers for the first phase of polling ended on Saturday in Saurashtra, South Gujarat and some parts of Ahmedabad district.

Our Ahmedabad Correspondent reports that nomination papers will be scrutinized on Monday, while these can be withdrawn by 28th November. The final picture will emerge only after the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers. The poling for 87 Assembly seats in the first phase will be held on 13th of December.
The filing of nomination papers for second phase of polling to be held 17th December is on.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission is focusing on increased voters participation in election process of the Assembly Elections. After two day review of Systematic Voters Education and Electoral participation (SVEEP) program in Ahmedabad, the Director General of the Election Commission, Askhay Rout told media persons that the aim of the Commission is to increase poll percentage by at least 10 percent, particularly of women voters. He said that special programs have been organized in pockets, where low turnout of women voters was recorded in previous polls.
