Over 15 killed in UP rain-related incidents

In Uttar Pradesh, at least 15 people were killed in rain-related incidents as heavy showers lashed eastern and central parts of the state in the last 24 hours. Above 7 Millimetre rainfall has been recorded in the state during the last 10 hours. Maximum 32 mm rainfall has been recorded at Rae Bareilly followed by 21 mm at Muzaffarnagar, 18 Ghazipur, and 11 each at Gorakhpur and Shahjahanpur districts. AIR Correspondent reports that several areas in many districts including Allahabad, Barabanki, Varanasi, Sultanpur, Raebarely, Gorakhpur and Ballia are waterlogged from last four to six days. People are forced to leave their houses due to waterlogging in residential areas and entering of rain water into their houses. Road and rail transport are badly affected and power supply and telephone system are also adversely hampered.Central Water Commission sources have said that most of the rivers were in spate following heavy rains. While Ganga was rising in Fatehgarh, it was already flowing above the red mark at Ballia and Sharda was also above the red mark. Ghaghara was rising and it was flowing well above the red mark at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki, Ayodhya and Turtipar. River Rapti was rising at Balrampur and Quano was also above the danger mark at Chandradeep ghat in Gonda district.Met office sources have forecast that rain and thundershowers at most places in eastern region of the state and at many places over western region. It warned that heavy to very heavy rain would occur at one or two places over the state during next 24 hours.
