Government says there is over 12 crore 62 lakh and 31 thousand rupees fake currency recovered in this fiscal up to May. Replying a question in the Rajya Sabha today, the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that these figures have been provided by National Crime Record Bureau. He informed the House that RBI has informed that they have received a few complaints of counterfeit currency being dispensed through ATMs. Mr. Mukherjee added that all scheduled banks have been instructed that bank notes in denomination of hundred rupees and above should be reissued only if these notes are duly checked for authenticity. For this, he said banks have been asked to use machines in all branches having average daily cash receipts of one crore and above by the end of March this year.
