Heavy rains and floods have affected more than 10,000 resettled Tamil families in the Vanni region of Sri Lanka, making their lives more miserable.The Disaster Management Centre in Sri Lanka said that 10,225 families have been displaced due to the inclement weather situation.Most of these families are in the Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu districts in the North of Sri Lanka.Over 40 tanks including the Iranamadu, Kalmadukulam and Akkerayankulum in the North are reported to be overflowing. 4,957 displaced persons of the Killinochchi disrict have been housed in 27 camps.Several small tanks in Vavunia, Mullaithivu and Mannar districts are also reported to be over flowing, affecting about 1300 acres of paddy lands.The Shivapuram village has been inundated due to the over flow of the Iranamadu tank in Kilinochchi. Several roads including the Paranthan, Puthukkudirippu have been inundated and impassable.In the Polonnaruwa district, all tanks and reservoirs are reported to be overflowing. About 1000 acres of paddy lands have been completely inundated. Seven sluice gates of the Kawdulu Weva in Medirigiriya have been opened by one foot.15 families of Parakum Pura have been displaced due to over flow of the Kirimati Oya, and they have been housed at the Parakum Pura Jayamaha Viharaya.
