Science and Technology Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan today said that Science and Technology has positively impacted the lives of farmers. Dr. Vardhan said currently over 1.1 crore farmers are receiving crop specific agro-meteorological advisories in their languages under Grameen Krishi Mausam Sewa. <br/><br/>Addressing a national video-link press conference from New Delhi, the Minister listed out key initiatives taken by his ministry in the fields of weather forecasting, formulation of new vaccines, biotechnology and energy research.<br/><br/>He said ambitious plans have been made in many new areas of S&T as it is the need of the hour to move ahead in this sector. He said, at a time when world is witnessing climate change, a reliable and accurate weather forecasting system plays a vital role in the prevention and mitigation of natural hazards. He said India's weather forecasting has become world class and its Tsunami warning system is constantly being tested and will have the maximum possible warning period in case of another strike.
