Our govt will encourage use of electric cars, says Piyush Goel

Union Power Minister Piyush Goel has said the Centre is keen to promote vehicles run by alternate energy sources like electric cars. He inaugurated a Bio-Compressed Natural Gas plant at Mahindra World City near Chennai yesterday. Later, addressing media persons, he said Maharashtra Government would soon waive Value Added Tax, Road Tax and Registration charges for electric cars. He added that the Centre is making efforts to extend the concessions throughout the country in coordination with state governments.<br/>In India, about 100 villages are being electrified every day at present. Mr Goel informed that the Union Government is making efforts to double the number, to achieve the target of providing electricity to all by 2018.
