US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen has reiterated his country’s claim that senior leadership of Al-Qaeda including Osama Bin Laden are hiding in Pakistan. Addressing a press conference in Kabul on Sunday, Mr. Mullen said there have been focused efforts to get Al-Qaeda leadership adding that dismantling and disrupting the network remains the main aim of Afghan mission. Repeatedly asked about ISI’s role in backing terrorist networks, Mr. Mullen said there are areas of the organization which are not known particularly to their alleged links to Haqqani network or Lashkar-e-Toiba. He said there have been improvement in relations with Pakistan but it is not at the level of strategic partnership. On the Afghan mission, the joints chief of staff accepted that no side is winning at this stage but there is progress made by NATO forces. Mr. Mullen said the progress is slow and steady adding that US is not running for the exits. He emphasized that July 2011 deadline announced by US President for start of withdrawal of US forces will be based upon conditions.
