OROP: Representatives of ex-servicemen likely to meet PM this week

The representatives of ex-servicemen, who have been protesting for the implementation of One Rank One Pension, OROP scheme for the last 71 days, are likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi this week. Talking to AIR, Retired Colonel Pushpender Singh, one of the ex-servicemen sitting on fast unto death said, the dates have not been fixed yet. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will meet Mr Modi and then they will be informed about the meeting with the Prime Minister.<br/><br/>Prime Minister's Office had held talks with representatives of the ex-servicemen last week who have agreed not to escalate their agitation for 10 days.<br/><br/>Meanwhile Mrinalini Singh, daughter of Union minister and former Army Chief V K Singh, joined the agitation for implementation of OROP yesterday. Mrinalini, whose husband is a serving Army officer, has also written a 10-page letter to the Prime Minister demanding immediate implementation of the scheme. She addressed the veterans and conveyed that her father too is very upset with the non-implementation of OROP and being a minister, he is trying to get it finalised through his own channels. She added that she has faith in the Prime Minister who has promised implementation of OROP.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, one of the ex-servicemen who is on a fast-unto-death for the last eight days has been shifted to Army Hospital in Delhi after his condition deteriorated. Even as he was being taken to the hospital, another ex-serviceman took his place and began fast. Two others are also on a similar protest at Jantar Mantar. Ex-servicemen have been protesting for immediate implementation of OROP for over two months.
