OROP: Delhi police evicts ex-servicemen from Jantar Mantar

Ahead of Independence Day celebrations, the Delhi police today evicted various protesting groups from Janatar Mantar, including the ex-servicemen who have been sitting on a Dharna demanding the implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP). The police said that the ex-servicemen were asked to move away from Jantar Mantar as the area had to be sanitised ahead of Independence Day. <br/><br/>The retired armed personnel had yesterday outrightly rejected the latest proposal on One Rank One Pension offered by the union government. The ex-servicemen have maintained that they do not want any change and do not want the OROP to be diluted. <br/><br/>The veterans want OROP to be implemented in letter and spirit as approved by Parliament. Condemning the police action, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the ex-servicemen protected us till yesterday and wondered how they have become a security threat on Independence Day .
