Orissa to seek additional CRPF forces against Maoist menace

Orissa government will demand three more battalions of central para-military force from the Centre in view of Maoist mayhem in some parts of the state. State Home Secretary Aditya Padhy told reporters after a review meeting by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar that additional forces are needed in view of Maoist violence in Sundargarh and Koraput districts. This demand would be in addition to the five battalions of CPMF, which is yet to arrive in the state. With Maoists having killed two persons in last two days, Mr Patnaik has asked the police to contain violence, especially in Sundergarh district. The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary T K Mishra, Padhy, DGP Manmohan Praharaj, Director of Intelligence Prakash Mishra and Inspector General (IG) of Police, Operation Sanjeev Marik. The participants drew Patnaik's attention to

the scarcity of police force to tackle the situation.
