The country's first National Freshwater Fish Brood Bank (NFFB) will be set up at Kausalyaganga fish farm at Bhubaneswar of Odisha. It will be on 100 acres water spread area with an initial investment of about 23 crore rupees. The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Fisheries Department of Government of Odisha at Bhubaneswar for setting up the brood bank. The brood bank will be developed and managed by NFDB, Hyderabad in collaboration with Central Institute ofFreshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) and the Odisha government. While theNFFB will address issues related to brood stock development, production of quality brood, rearing of quality fish seed to fingerlings and to distribute these fingerlings to hatcheries in different parts of the country, the NFDB will maintain species diversity, continuous development of brood stock production with technical support from CIFA.
