Ahead of the crucial Budget Session, the Odisha Government has increased almost three-fold increase in MLA's salary and perks. Total emoluments of the MLAs has been hiked to Rs 60,000 from Rs 21,950 per month. The perks of Chief Minister, Minister, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Leader Of Opposition, Government Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip have also been revised. A decision to this effect has been taken by the Odisha Cabinet on Friday presided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The Chief Minister's salary has been hiked to Rs 59,000 the Speaker's pay will be Rs 58,500. The Cabinet ministers and leader of opposition will get Rs 58,000 while the ministers of state and Deputy Speaker will get Rs 57,000. The Cabinet also decided to reserve 50 per cent seats in all categories in panchayat institutions. Earlier, 33 per cent reservation was given to women in these institutions.The Cabinet has decided to bring bills in this effect in the coming Assembly Session.
