Orissa: Minister resigns

In Orissa, Women and Child Development Minister Pramila Mallick has resigned. Her resignation comes in the wake of allegation of a 700-crore rupees scam in the purchase of dal for mid-day meal scheme and Supplementary in that Nutrition Programme – SNC. Pramila mallick said in Bhubaneswar that she had resigned on her own on moral grounds for the interest of the BJD party and to keep the clean image of the government intact. She said she is not afraid of a probe. Mallick said this after a meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Her department is the nodal agency to provide dal to about 9.5 million beneficiaries including 5 million school children. Patnaik said action is being taken against former collector of Deogarh Ambika Mishra and Mayurbhanj districts P K Meherda on the issue.
