Original Character of Yamuna will be preserved, says Uma Bharti

Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Uma Bharti today said that original character of Yamuna will be preserved while implementing the Yamuna Action Plan. Inaugurating some schemes of Yamuna Action Plan-3 in New Delhi, the Minister said, government and all sections of the society have to work together to make it a success. <br/><br/>Ms Bharti said, 800 crore rupees will be spent on the implementation of this phase of the plan. 85 per cent of the cost will be borne by the Centre, and the rest by Delhi Government. The Scheme includes rehabilitation and modernization of Sewage Treatment Plants – STPs at Okhla, Kondli and Rithala, construction of a new STP and Public Outreach Activities. The Minister also said, the Chhatt Ghat at the bank of Yamuna will be renovated at an estimated cost of around 2.5 crore rupees. <br/><br/>Ms Bharti also flagged of a Trash Skimmer machine on the Yamuna for river surface cleaning and it can remove ten tonne trash daily.<br/>Referring to Yamuna Action Plan -1 and 2, the Minister said that despite spending over 1500 crore rupees, the desired results could not be achieved. She said, the government has taken into account the results of the earlier two phases while implementing the 3rd plan.
