Ordinance on digitization of cable TV services to be promulgated

Analog transmission in Indian cable television is all set to be phased out with the government deciding to promulgate an ordinance that makes digitization of such services mandatory.

The Union Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, approved a proposal to promulgate digitization of Analogue Cable Systems Ordinance.

I&B Minister Ambika Soni said this when asked about the proposal for digitization of cable TV services. She said that the Cabinet has sent the proposal to the President.

The Information and Broadcasting ministry is aiming at complete digitization of cable sector in the four metros by March 31, 2012.
