In Andhra Pradesh, two ordinances have been promulgated to empower the state Government to monitor and inspect the private Engineering Colleges and other professional colleges under the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University . State Governor E S L Narasimhan has promulgated two ordinances amending the AP Education Act and the JNTU Act last evening.?The ordinances are aimed at providing powers to the State Higher Education Council to monitor and inspect the colleges and even to take action against those colleges that do not maintain standards and quality education. This will also enable the authorities to verify the justification of the fee collected by the colleges. The task forces will be set up to inspect the facilities and academic standards in the colleges.?The timing of the ordinances has gained significance especially when the Colleges are getting ready to increase the tuition fee while the State Government is to take final call on the proposed cap on the tuition fee reimbursement for the students belonging to weaker sections.
