Opposition walkout over non-allotment of work under EGS in Maha assembly

In Maharashtra, the entire Opposition in the Legislative Assembly staged a walkout after the uproarious scenes over the non-allotment of work under the Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) and non-payment to the labourers in various parts of the state. The starred question on the subject from the senior member Mr. Ganpatrao Deshmukh, which was withheld last Friday, was taken up yesterday. The Minister for Agriculture and EGS Mr. Balasaheb Thorat informed the house that more than one lakh works have been sanctioned to provide employment to the deserving candidates. The Opposition members alleged that the State Govt. was not serious towards implementation of own EGS after initiation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Leader of Opposition Mr. Eknath Khadse and others severely criticised the Government for neglecting the labourers. They started shouting slogans in the well of the house. The Minister accepted to arrange a review meeting to address concerns of the all-party members but the Opposition members were not satisfied and staged a walkout.

The sting operation conducted by a private TV channel against a senior Cabinet Minister also rocked both the houses of legislature yesterday. The proceedings of the current session would now resume on Monday after the recess for the biennial Council elections in the local bodies constituencies in the state.
