Opposition storms UP House over scams

In Uttar Pradesh, the Monsoon Session of State Legislature began on a stormy note on Friday. Demanding resignation of Chief Minister Mayawati for the alleged irregularities in the implementation of National Rural Health Mission in the state, murders of senior medical officers and alleged forced land acquisitions in various parts of the state opposition members paralysed both houses. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that amidst slogan shouting in the Assembly, the House was adjourned till Monday. The Chief Minister left the Assembly as soon as the Opposition members trooped into the well of the House. The Legislative Councilwas also adjourned till Monday. As soon as the Assembly met in the morning, BJP members walked into well, raising slogans against the Government and demanding immediate discussion on the issue of forced land acquisition. Other opposition members also stood on their seats raising slogans. Speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar tried to pacify the members, but the Opposition insisted that the Question Hour be suspended and both issues taken up immediately. The scene was no different in the Vidhan Parishad. Leader of Opposition Shivpal Singh Yadav has demanded resignation of the Chief Minister on moral grounds over the alleged multi-crore scam in NRHM as she had also headed the department for almost two years until May 2009.
