Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day yesterday on the FDI issue amidst uproarious scenes with the opposition expressing strong resentment against the government's decision to allow FDI in multi brand retail.
Addressing a press Confrence after tabling the statement in the two houses, the Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said that FDI in multi-brand retail will be subject to riders including a minimum investment of 5,200 crore rupees.
He dismissed the criticism by the opposition parties and asserted that the decision will create millions of jobs and ensure remunerative prices to farmers.
Government has expressed confidence that parliament will function smoothly from Monday. Top government sources said that both the houses of Parliament are likely to take up discussion on price rise under a rule that does not entail voting. Sources said that government has conceeded adjournment motion on blackmoney and it will be taken up after this discussion.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said that government is ready to discuss all the issues provided opposition does not disrupt the proceedings. He said in a democracy, issues can be sorted out by discussion and not by forceful disruptions.
