Opposition parties slam Centre for not giving relief to railway passengers

The West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamta Banerjee has said that West Bengal has been deprived and heckled by the New Government at the Centre. Ms Banerjee's comment came in a Facebook Post after presentation of the Rail Budget.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has criticised the Rail Budget, saying it lacks vision. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, he said that Congress ruled states have been ignored in it. Mr. Gandhi also said that it is not possible to fulfill all the promises made by the Railway Minister in the budget.

Meanwhile, Delhi Congress today staged a protest outside Rail Minister D V Sadananda Gowda's residence in New Delhi over the recent hike in rail fares. Party workers were agitated after the government did not roll back the fare hike in the budget. Congress leader Mukesh Sharma was seen pulling down the nameplate of the Rail Minister and trampled upon it.

Yesterday, during a similar demonstration at Jantar Mantar, the party had warned that it will intensify protests in different parts of the city if the fare hike decision is not reversed.
