Though there are eleven days left to file the nomination for the Jan 26th Sri Lankan Presidential election, charges and counter charges from the ruling party and the opposition are flying from all directions.<br/><br/>Responding to the charges of nepotism and corruption by the ‘common’ candidate of the opposition retired General Sarath Fonseka, the government today said that the joint opposition is carrying out a vicious campaign against the family members of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and challenged the opposition to prove such allegations with concrete evidence.<br/><br/>Minister of Mass Media and Information, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that the opposition was engaged in a mud slinging campaign on the Rajapaksa's family with ulterior motives to gain political mileage as the Presidential election nears.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Government and the free media group in Sri Lanka have vehemently condemned the attack on media personnel from the ITN and Rupavahini after the UNP convention yesterday. The Police are investigating the complaints.
