Opposition demands prosecution of Tharoor over his involvement in IPL; Modi remains non-committal on his future course of action

The BJP has demanded prosecution of former Minister of State for External Affairs Mr Shashi Tharoor for his alleged involvement in the IPL franchise controversy.<br/><br/>Briefing reporters after the Parliamentary Party meeting, party spokesperson Mr S S Ahluwalia said even if Mr Shashi Tharoor makes a statement to clarify his position in the controversy in Parliament, the party will press for the statement from Prime Minister on the issue.<br/><br/>He said the party will bring cut motions on the Finance Bill as announced earlier.<br/><br/>According to sources, BCCI President Shashank Manohar in the National Capital to hold discussion with Mr Pawar on the issue. Manohar's visit comes amid reports that the top brass of BCCI are planning to remove Lalit Modi from the post of IPL Commissioner and Chairman.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, Cricket Board has also rescheduled its Working Committee meeting from April 24 to May 2 as it wants the IPL Governing Council meeting to first discuss the issue. The council meeting is expected to meet on April 26, a day after the IPL final.<br/><br/>The BJP has reiterated its demand for a probe into the alleged corruption in the Indian Premier League. Talking to reporters outside Parliament on Tuesday, party spokesman Prakash Javdekar said that the government should not delay the probe and all those found guilty should be punished.<br/><br/><br/>Meanwhile, Under-fire Lalit Modi today parried questions about his resignation as the IPL Commissioner, saying that the matter will be discussed and a unanimous decision will be taken at the upcoming Governing Council meeting on April 26. <br/><br/>Mr Modi told this to reporters in Mumbai on his arrival from Dubai where he had gone to attend the ICC's Executive Board meeting. Although there is intense speculation that Modi would step down after the final of the IPL on Sunday, he did not talk on the subject at all. <br/><br/>Mr Modi said, he will present all the facts against all the allegations adding that there is nothing to worry about and they will carry on. Mr Modi himself is under fire for allegedly helping his family and friends buy stakes in various IPL teams.
