Oppn stalls Parliament for fourth day on Gujarat Lokayukta issue

The BJP-led opposition stalled the proceedings in both the Houses of Parliament for the fourth day on Tuesday on the issue of the appointment of the Lokayukta in Gujarat.

The Lok Sabha has been adjourned for the day after repeated adjournments on the issue. The Rajya Sabha, which witnessed two adjournments in the pre-lunch session, was also adjourned finally for the day at 2 PM.

AIR Parliamentary Correspondent reports that the Oppossition BJP was on its feet since morning in both the Houses raising slogans and trooping into the well of the house. They were demanding recall of the Gujarat Governor and quashing of the appointment of Lokayukta in that state.

Leader of the Lok Sabha and the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today held a meeting with BJP Parliamentary Party chief L K Advani in Parliament House in an effort to end the impasse on the issue. Opposition BJP is adamant that the Lokayukta should be removed. Soon after this meeting, Mr. Advani held consultations with his colleagues, including Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and her Rajya Sabha counterpart, Arun Jaitley.

Party sources said that BJP may drop the demand of recall of Governor if the Lokayukta is removed in the state.
