The BJP led Opposition today attacked the government for rise in the prices of essential commodities saying that common man was suffering under its impact. They criticised the government specially for hiking the prices of kerosene and LPG which they felt had hit the poor the hardest. They wanted the government to take steps on war footing to check inflation. The ruling party members on the other hand rejected the opposition charges and strongly defended the government policies. They said that prices have started coming down because of the measures taken by the government. Several suggestions on streamlining of the PDS, stringent measures against black marketeers and hoarders and increase in agriculture production also came up during the discussion. The debate was initiated by the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Mrs Sushma Swaraj , who accused the government of being insensitive to the plight of the common man .She also called for a revenue neutral regime. The debate is continuing.
