The Congress today accused the opposition BJP of being irresponsible for not allowing Parliament to function. Speaking exclusively to the All India Radio outside Parliament House, Senior Congress leader and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni said, the BJP does not want a discussion to take place. She said, if they wanted, the BJP would have given notice for a discussion. Mrs. Soni said, without allowing the parliament to function, they are straightway demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister. Mrs. Ambika Soni said, the UPA government has never avoided a discussion on any issue, be it the allocation of Coal, Delhi Airport or Power Projects.
Mrs. Soni said, it is not for the first time the BJP is stalling both the houses, and they do it every session causing great loss to the exchequer. Mrs. Soni said, the houses should not be stalled like this and it is not in public interest.
Earlier both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned till noon. In the Lok Sabha, as soon the House met for the day, opposition led by BJP members trooped into the well demanding the resignation of the Prime minister over the CAG report on coal blocks allocation. Members belonging to AIADMK and DMK also protested against alleged atrocities by the Sri Lankan Navy on Tamil Nadu fishermen. The Speaker Ms Meira Kumar adjourned the House for one hour.
In the Rajya Sabha, several members belonging to NDA shouted slogans against the reported comments on inflation by the Steel Minister Beni Prasad Varma. The Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari adjourned the House till noon.
The Lok Sabha has since been adjourned for the day. When the House reassembled at 12 noon after first adjournment, noisy scenes were witnessed as the opposition led by BJP members trooped into the well of the House. They disrupted the proceedings of the House demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister over the CAG report on coal blocks allocation. As order was not restored inspite of repeated requests by the Speaker Mrs. Meira Kumar, the House was adjourned for the day.
