The opposition today disrupted proceedings in
both the Houses of Parliament leading to their adjournment. The Lok Sabha has been adjourned for the day and the Rajya Sabha till 2 PM as oppostion BJP continued to press for the resignation of Prime Minister on coalgate issue. The members from Trinamool Congress, SP and Left Parties trooped into the wells of the two houses raising the issues of alleged neglect of West Bengal in grant of Central funds and reported Chinese incursions in Ladakh. As noisy scenes continued, Presiding Officers adjourned both the Houses. Earlier the two houses were adjourned till noon.
The Rajya Sabha has since been adjourned for the day.
The BJP today demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan singh and removal of Law Minister Ashwani Kumar for allegedly influencing CBI on its report to the Supreme Court in the coal block allocations. Talking to reporters after the Parliamentary Party meeting in New Delhi today, Party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged the Prime Minister's Office is very much involved in this.
Mr Prasad said that BJP will not cooperate with the government. He said it is the responsibility of the government to run both the Houses of Parliament.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath has said that there is no question of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh resigning on the coal block allocations issue. Talking to reporters outside Parliament today, he alleged that the BJP’s demand for Dr Singh’s resignation is only a diversionary tactic.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari has said the CBI has already clarified that it will submit an affidavit to the Supreme Court in this regard. He said the BJP’s demand for sacking of the Law and Justice Minister is not justified.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi today dismissed the
demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the coal blocks allocation issue.She was talking to reporters after a meeting of the Congress Core Group headed by her on the issue.
