In Odisha, the deadline set by Maoists for the Odisha Government for securing release of ruling BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka and Italian national comes to an end today. The Naveen Patnaik Government is waiting for response from the two Maoist groups holding the two hostages. It has already agreed to release 27 jailed Maoists in lieu of the MLA and Italian national Paolo Boscusco. Our correspondent reports that there is stiff resistance from Odisha police to release maoists in exchange of the hostages.The state government is yet to decide on the condition by the Maoists that the wife of the 37-year-old MLA should reach a village in Koraput district today along with 30 freed prisoners for release of Hikaka. As the twin-hostage crises turned murkier, Opposition Congress and BJP charged the ruling BJD government of failure to resolve the crisis.
