Operations to continue until Maoists shun violence : Chidambaram

The Government made it clear that operations against the Naxals will continue till they halt violence and come forward for talks. The Home Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram said the purpose of operations is not to kill anyone but to re-establish civil administration in areas dominated by the Naxals. <br/><br/>He said, the Centre and the State forces are acting with great restraint in undertaking operations against the ultras. <br/><br/>The Home Minister was talking to reporters in Kolkata after a review meeting with the leaders and senior officials of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Orissa and Bihar. <br/><br/>Expressing confidence that slow and steady progress will be made in operations against Naxals, Mr. Chidambaram said, it will be a measured, caliberated and carefully-controlled operation. <br/><br/>The meeting was convened by the Union Home Minister in Kolkata to help states to coordinate their campaign against Naxals. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Bihar Chief Minister, Mr. Nitish Kumar said that naxal problem cannot be solved through sheer use of force. Talking at Patna, Mr. Kumar further stated that benefits of development must reach common people to curb this problem.<br/><br/>He said state government has initiated a programme `Aap Ki Sarkar Aap Key Dwar' in 67 Panchayats so that development reaches the lowest strata of the society.<br/><br/>Mr. Nitish Kumar demanded adequate central assistance so that this programme may be extended to other Panchayats.
