The Centre has made it clear that operation against Naxals will continue till they halt violence and come forward for talks.<br/><br/>The Home Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram said that the purpose of operations is not to kill anyone but to re-establish civil administration in areas dominated by Naxals.<br/><br/>He said, the Centre and the State forces are acting with great restraint in undertaking operations against the ultras.<br/><br/>The Home Minister was talking to reporters in Kolkata after a review meeting with the leaders and senior officials of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Orissa and Bihar.<br/><br/>Mr. Chidambaram said that in the last two months key Naxal leaders have been apprehended in Bihar, Orissa and Uttar Pradesh.<br/><br/>Expressing confidence that slow and steady progress will be made in operations against Naxals, the Home Minister said, the operation will be a measured, calibrated and carefully-controlled operations.<br/><br/>He informed that developmental issues like schools, roads, drinking water, medical facilities and jobs also came up for discussion during the review meeting.<br/><br/>The meeting chaired by Home Minister P Chidambaram was attended by the Chief Ministers of West Bengal and Orissa Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Mr. Navin Pathnaik.<br/><br/>Deputy Chief Ministers of Jharkhand Rabhubar Das and Sudesh Mahato and high-level officials of the Bihar Government also attended the crucial meet alongwith senior security officials.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the meeting assumed importance because of the fact that the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has repeatedly pointed out that the country’s greatest threat to internal security have been the Maoists. The Union Home Minister Mr P Chidambaram made it amply clear that the Maoists would have to abjure violence, if they were interested in talk with the Government. He also stressed on greater inter-state coordinator of security forces to prevent Maoists from crossing over to another state after committing violent acts in a state. It seems that the Centre is more or less prepared for a long drawn battle with the ultra-left.
