The operation and maintenance work of Modern Fish Market located in Port Blair which became functional from yesterday has been assigned to local fishermen's Self-Help Group to flourish employment opportunities under Atmanirbhar Bharat.&nbsp; Sanitation is primarily focused in this Modern Fish Market which is equipped with all modern amenities for fish storage.<br />'' <br />'' AIR correspondent reports, to provide employment opportunities to vulnerable fishermen under Atmanirbhar Bharat, the operation and maintenance work of Modern Fish Market has been assigned to Port Blair Fishermen Self-Help Group. The Market became functional yesterday. It comprises 96 stalls with a total fish storage capacity of 5 tons. It was constructed by the Fisheries Department with an approximate cost of two crore rupees and later transferred it to the Port Blair Municipal Corporation,PBMC for its operation.<br />'' <br />'' The PBMC recently signed an agreement to hand it over to 11-member Fishermen Self-Help Group for three years. The market is equipped with all modern amenities like chill room, deep storage etc.<br />'' <br />'' Besides, a 12,000-Litre rain water harvesting plant has also been established to meet water requirements and fish waste will be utilized in preparing manure. Fisheries has an important role in the island's economy and it is expected to create more employment opportunities for locals in the coming time.&nbsp;<br />
