Open to support from any party, post poll; No belief in political untouchability, says BJP

BSP and Trinamool Congress have ruled out support to Modi or BJP led government in post-poll scenario, but BJP says it does not believe in political untouchability.

BSP supremo Mayawati told reporters in Lucknow that BSP will not extend any kind of support to Modi or NDA to form the government at any cost. She said Modi's statement betrayed nervousness on his part as the BJP has realised that it might not be able to form the government.

Trinamool Congress also today ruled out backing a Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre after the Lok Sabha elections. Trinamool Congress spokesperson Derek O' Brien said in Kolkata that if it is a Modi-led government, then doors are shut and the keys have been thrown away. Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee addressing a series of election rallies in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal yesterday, had said that TMC will not join BJP led government at the Centre even if they beg for it.

Both parties were reacting to Modi's comments in a television interview last night hinting at keeping the doors open for doing business with leaders like Jayalalithaa, Mamata Banerjee and Mayawati.

However, there was no reaction from Chennai either from the Tamil Nadu chief minister or her party AIADMK.

Reacting to BSP leader Mayawati's comments, Narendra Modi's close aide and BJP's UP in-charge Amit Shah told reporters in Varanasi that BJP does not believe in political untouchability. While exuding confidence that NDA would win more than 300 seats to form a government, Shah said that the party is still open to support from any party if they want to ally for the country's development.
