Government has decided that only the Home Ministry will henceforth speak on the sensitive internal security issue. Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrashekhar has written to all Ministers and Secretaries in this regard.

The move comes in the wake of views expressed by Service Chiefs on the use of defence forces in the anti-naxal operations and some ministers airing their views in public on related issues.

A day after the Dantewada naxal strike, Home Minister P Chidambaram spoke of possible involvement of air power in the anti-naxal operations while Air Chief Marshal P V Naik said on the same day that he is not in favour of such an idea.

Similarly, Army Chief General V K Singh has said that there were internal deficiencies in the way the CRPF carried out the Dantewada operation and the battalion involved was not trained by the army.

While Mr Chidambaram refuted these remarks in a veiled manner, the Home Ministry came out with a statement highlighting the training imparted to the CRPF personnel involved in the Dantewada operation.
