The government has decided to suspend onion exports till 15th of January next year in the wake of skyrocketing prices of the commodity. Onion is selling now 60 to 70 rupees a kilo in the retail market. Onion prices have soared in the retail markets across the country from 35 to 40 rupees a couple of days ago. NAFED has been asked to stop giving fresh clearance to exporters. AIR correspondent quoting sources reports that NAFED have decided to voluntarily suspend issuing No Objection Certificate to onion exporters till January 15. It has also raised the Minimum Export Price to 1,200 US dollars per tonne for those NOCs which is yet to be executed. The decision to suspend exports was taken at an emergency meeting of NAFED held on Monday.
