ONGC to intesify domestic exploration

Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) will intensify domestic exploration and aggressively pursue overseas acquisitions. This is being done to offset the natural decline in output. Addressing the shareholders of the company, in New Delhi today the Chairman and Managing Director of the Corporation Mr.R S Sharma said today that ONGC has charted out three 'strategic pursuits including intensifying exploration, improving recovery factor from existing fields and aggressively pursuing for overseas projects.He said crude oil production at Imperial Energy, the Russia-focused firm it acquired last year, has nearly doubled to 11,500 barrels per day. Mr R S Sharma said that the f the corporation is targeting 16,000 barrels per day by the year-end and 25,000 bpd by the end of 2010.The foreign wing of ONGC is currently in the process of consolidating operations and has pushed back major investments to next year. It is investing 209.6 million US Dollars in developing the fields in 2009 and an additional 46.39 million Dollars on exploration.
