<span style="color: #222222;">In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, one terrorist was killed in an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Melhora area in south Kashmir's Shopian district Monday evening.<br />'' <br />'' Police sources said that a joint team of security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Melhora village following the intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.<br />'' <br />'' As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, the terrorists fired upon them and in retaliation, one terrorist was gunned down.<br />'' <br />'' The identity of the slain terrorist is being ascertained. The joint operation in the area was going on when the last reports came in.<br />'' <br />'' Meanwhile, in another incident this evening, a J&K Police Officer was shot dead by terrorists at Kenalwan village in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district.<br />'' <br />'' Official sources said that the terrorists attacked the Inspector Mohammad Ashraf Bhat as he was returning home after offering prayers. He was rushed to Bijbehara Hospital in critical condition.<br />'' <br />'' However, the doctors declared him as brought dead on arrival.<br />'' <br />'' The area has been immediately cordoned off by the security forces to nab the assailants.<br />'' <br />'' Further details are awaited.<br />'' <br />'' </span><br />
