According to an official report one person takes his or her life every four minutes in India. The report released recently by National Crime Records Bureau shows an increase of 1.7 per cent in suicide cases in 2009 compared to the previous year. According to the report one in every third victim is a youth below the age of 30 years while over 68 per cent committed suicide across the country in the age group of 15-44 years. . The report says that in nearly 45 percent of the cases suicides were driven by family or health related problems. The number of suicides due to employment and professional problems showed an increase of almost 34 percent. The maximum number of suicide cases was reported from West Bengal followed by Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
