In Bihar, one polling official was killed and a presiding officer was seriously injured in a land mine explosion triggered by Maoists at Sano block in Jamui district during the ninth phase of Panchayat elections today. State Election Commissioner J K Dutta said that Maoists have also abducted six polling officials. Our Patna correspondent reports that a massive combing operation is continuing to locate the kidnapped polling officials.An estimated 62 percent voters exercised their franchise today. Voting took place for 700 Gram Panchayats spread over 46 blocks of the state.The Panchayat elections will conclude on May 18.
