One of biggest hurdles in good governance corruption: Sankaranarayanan

The Maharashtra governor K Sankaranarayanan today regretted that one of the biggest hurdles in good governance is corruption, which is spoiling the fair image of the country in the eyes of the world. `Corruption is preventing the fruits of development from reaching the common man,’ he said after inaugurating the two-day 14th National Conference on e Governance in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He also made it clear that e-governance doesn’t mean computerizing offices, launching websites in rural and urban areas. It’s about efficient and effective and empowering governance. Ultimate goal of the e-governance should be to make all public services accessible to the common man in his locality at affordable cost, Sankaranarayanan added.V Narayansamy, the minister state of Parliamentary affairs said that `with increasing awareness among citizens about their rights and their expectations from the government to perform and deliver, the whole paradigm of governance has changed.’ He said `government is expected to be transparent in its dealing, accountable for its activities and faster in its responses.'Maharashtra Chief minister Prithivraj Chavan said, objective of e-Governance would be achieved only if the system reaches out to the commonest of the common people.
