In Kashmir valley, one militant and a policeman were killed in an encounter in Sopore town of Baramulla district. Quoting Superintendent of Police, Baramullah district, Altaf Ahmed Khan, AIR correspondent reports that acting on a tip off, the police and the CRPF made a siege in the wee hours today in Krankshivan area in the outskirts of Sopore town which triggered a gun battle that lasted for several hours. In the ensuing gun battle, one Harkat-ul-Mujahideen militant who seems to be local though not fully identified as yet and an armed policeman were killed whereas the house in which the militant hiding was also got damaged. Though the firing has stopped, the search operation is still on.
