One lakh MW power target by next five years: Shinde

Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has said that centre has set the target to add about one lakh megawatt of electricity by next five years. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Shinde said that the work has already started for projects that will fetch almost eighty thousand megawatts. He added that government will create an enabling policy environment to lift private players' contribution to 50 percent by the end of twelfth five year plan. The minister said that the government has also awarded four ultra mega power projects to private players with an aggregate capacity of sixteen thousand megawatt. Admitting coal availability is becoming a major hindrance in power generation sector; Mr. Shinde said that he has written to the concerned authorities for increasing coal production and supplies to power sector. The minister also informed that government is emphasizing to increase the share of clean and renewable sources of energy.
