The Government has set a target of generating an additional one lakh megawatt of electricity in the next five years. Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said in New Delhi on Tuesday that the work has already started on projects that will generate over eighty thousand megawatts of power.The minister informed that Centre has also awarded four ultra mega power projects to private players with an aggregate capacity of sixteen thousand megawatt. Conceding that coal availability is becoming a major hindrance in power generation sector, Mr. Shinde said that he has written to the concerned authorities for increasing coal production and supplies to the power sector.
