In Bangladesh, one policeman was killed and more than fifty people were injured which included several policemen in clashes between police and thousands of protestors against the proposed new Bangabandhu International Airport. Traffic on the Dhaka-Mawa highway in Munshiganj was affected for several hours as more than twenty thousand people enforced a blockade on the highway on Monday morning to protest against the government’s move to acquire land in the area for the proposed airport. The protests turned violent leading to clashes between the law enforcers and the protestors. Police had to fire rubber bullets and use tear gas canisters to disperse the protesting people.
