One killed in cross firing between two rival groups in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, at least one person was killed and four others seriously injured today in cross firing between two rival groups in Azamgarh district during polling for heads of Kshetra Panchayats at Atarauliya block headquarter. Quoting police sources our Lucknow correspondent reports one person was died on the spot while one received bullet injuries has been referred to Varanasi while three are admitted at district hospital. Senior civil and police officers have reached on the spot. Polling is going on at 512 blocks out of 821 for the elections of heads of Kshetra Panchayats. It would be continued till 3 PM and after that counting of votes will take place. A total of 1078 candidates are in fray. A total of 308 candidates have been declared unopposed. Most of the elected unopposed candidates are ruling Bahujan Samaj Party supported.The State Election Commission has asked that Divisional Commissioner Lucknow to be present at Hardoi district to supervise the poll process and local police will not be deployed at polling place at Sandila, Shahabad and Bharawan blocks of the district. PAC will be deployed for security. The Commission has already stayed the election process at Dadraul block from Shahjahanpur district following a complaint that a state government minister has prevented the proposer and seconder of a candidate and under pressure nomination papers of that candidate have been cancelled. In Bulandshahr district nomination resumed today at Bulandshahr Kshetra Panchayat following a complaint about preventing a candidate from filing nomination and Polling will be held on 24 December.
