In Odisha, the one-day bandh call given by Maoists in Malkangiri district in protest against the killing of a woman naxalite in a recent encounter with security personnel has evoked lukewarm response. However, it has partially affected some places in the district known to be strongholds of the rebels. Some private buses were plying along various routes in the Maoist-hit district, while government buses remained off the road. Life in district headquarter of Malkangiri and few other towns remained normal. Maoist-affected areas like Kalimela, Motu, Padia and MV-79 were partially affected. Security was tightened across Malkangiri district with deployment of personnel in strength in sensitive areas and stepped-up patrolling. All the borders of the district have been sealed and special security measures have been taken at different government offices and establishments including police station, armories and prisons.
