The government today said nearly one child goes missing every eight minutes in the country. In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary said as per data furnished by States and Union Territories to National Crime Record Bureau, NCRB, an average of 60 per cent of those missing are girls and around 44 per cent of missing children have remained untraceable. <br/><br/>He said NCRB has reported that the number of children going missing in India every year as per trend noticed during the last four years is less than one lakh. Mr Chaudhary said Delhi police has launched a project called SNEH to tackle the problem of missing children. Under this scheme Juvenile Welfare Officers of the Police Stations work in close coordination with NGOs and undertake awareness campaign and programme.
