The Onam festival is being celebrated today by the people of Kerela. The harvest festival of the state is well known for its pomp and gaiety. Keralites across the world are celebrating Thiruvonam, the most auspicious day of the ten day long festival today. Making of floral carpets in front of each household, buying new clothes for family members, traditional feast served on banana leaves and variety of activities reflecting the diverse and rich cultural tradition of Kerala are the highlights of Onam festival. Shops and business establishments across Kerala are doing brisk business associated with Onam.Hundreds of devotees today presented bunch of bananas to the presiding deity at Sree Krishna temple in Guruvayur on the eve of “Thiruvonam”. The President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil has greeted people on the occasion of Onam. In her message, she wished all prosperity to the citizens especially the people of Kerala.
