Omar for holistic approach for restoration, conservation of heritage sites

Underlining the importance of restoration and conservation of heritage sites in Jammu and Kashmir State, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has called for holistic approach by the concerned departments in this regard to preserves historic and cultural specialty of Jammu and Kashmir. Taking stock of the conservation programme of Samba Fort at a meeting in Srinagar today, the Chief Minister said that the State possesses rich heritage and remarkable archaeological and architectural characteristics which need focused attention. Omar said that a comprehensive plan of restoration of the Samba Fort has been conceived at an estimated cost of over 4.87 crore rupees adding that over 75 lakh rupees have been spent on various works for the restoration of the Fort. Samba Fort is situated at a commanding location and has greater historical significance. Sources place date of its first construction around 13th – 14th Century AD.
