In Jammu & Kashmir, for bringing more transparency in the functioning of the Roads and Buildings Department and reducing the chances of corruption, state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today directed the Department to e-tender all works costing 5 lakh rupees and above.He said that Prime Minister's Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) works have already been put on e-tendering system and are being successfully conducted, adding this mechanism is in the pipeline for many more departments.The initiative is directed at restricting and curbing chances of malpractices in the functioning of departments largely associated with construction works and infrastructural development.An International Conference on current and futuristic prospects of Transformer Technology on Global Horizon and Challenges for Indian Power Sector is in progress in New Delhi.The conference organized by Indian Transformer Manufacturers Association, ITMA, is focusing on challenges and new strategies for generation of power and other aspects including transmission, distribution reforms and electricity polices. Along with restructuring of SEBs for supplying power at reasonable cost, role in reducing the cost of equipment production with utmost customer satisfaction are also the issues of discussion.Members of the executive council of ITMA and supporting association are participating in this two-day conference. On this occasion, about 40 technical papers are also being discussed.
