In the London Olympics on Wednesday, Indian boxing star M C Mary Kom lost her semifinal bout to Great Britain's Nicola Adams and had to settle for a bronze. Mary Kom was not allowed an opportunity to exhibit her natural game as her rival forced her to go defensive. The Indian lost her 51 kg semi-final bout 6-11 against the world number two British boxer.Mary Kom's medal took India's tally to four — one silver and three bronze — which is one more than the country's haul in the 2008 Games in Beijing.India's Tintu Luka advanced to the semi-finals of the 800 metres race. She finished third clocking 2 minutes, 1.75 seconds in heat number two. Out of the twentyfour runners competing in the semi-finals today, eight will make it to the finals.Boxer Devendro Singh's bid for an Olympic medal was dashed last night when he succumbed to Ireland's Paddy Barnes in a high-voltage quarter-final contest. The 20-year old Devendro fought gallantly but could not prevail over his stronger opponent and lost with a 18-23 verdict. With his exit, the Indian challenge in the boxing ring came to an end.The United States dominated the track and field events yesterday by claiming three Gold Medals. In Table-Tennis, China repeated their Beijing Games performance with a clean sweep of all the Olympic golds.Apart from Luka's 800 metres semi-finals, Indian athletes will also be seen in action in Athletics and Wrestling. Sahana Kumari will figure in the women's high jump qualification round while Geeta Phogat will compete in the women's 55 kg Freestyle Wrestling.At the end of the 12th day of competitions, China were leading the medals table with 36 Gold, 22 Silver and 19 Bronze. The United States are in the second spot with 34 Gold, 22 Silver and 25 Bronze. Hosts Great Britain follow in the third position, with 22 Gold, 13 Silver and 13 Bronze.
