A large number of Olympians on Saturday participated in the Kolkata leg of Olympic Day Run . The sacred Olympic flame was first lighted in Athens on June 23, 1984, and since then it is held on any day between Jun 23 to 30 every year in the major cities of the world. The Kolkata leg saw Olympians like Gurbux Singh, Paltu Roy, Soma Biswas and Dola Banerjee, among others, in the prestigious run. The Run started at Rabindra Sarobar and culminated at Kshudiram Anushilan Kendra. The 10-kilometre run was flagged off by West Bengal Sports Minsiter Madan Mitra, while Governor M K Narayanan presided over the closing ceremony where all the living state athletes were felicitated. State Agriculture and Marketing Minister Arup Roy, City Mayor Shovan Chatterjee and sports dignitaries attended the august function.
